  Description
While most airlines transport people, ABX transports packages. Because of ABX, the West Coast is just a few short hours away from the East Coast. Packages shipped from one coast at the end of the business day arrive on the other coast in time to be delivered the next morning. Mid-continent cities receive the same quick service.

Late each weeknight, planes begin arriving in Wilmington, Ohio. Experienced handlers quickly unload the aircraft, sort the packages by cities, then reload them on the appropriate aircraft to be flown to their destination cities.

International shipments are handled the same way. However, those with international destinations other than Canada are flown by ABX to U.S. Gateway cities, where they are consolidated with other shipments and flown on non-ABX international flights. U.S. Customs officials are on hand each night at ABX to process Canadian shipments.

The airline also has a Day Sort Operation and a network of Regional Sort Hubs located strategically across the country. Shipments with origins and destinations near these Regional Hubs need not be routed through the Wilmington Hub. Just as ABX has staffed package handling centers across the nation, it also has a nation-wide system of aircraft maintenance stations and personnel who help ensure that the aircraft fleet flies safely and dependably.

Keeping an airline flying is a complicated task and requires dedication, training, experience, desire, and pride - all traits exhibited by ABX employees who help make the airline safe and successful. In many ways, the airline is self-reliant, completing a variety of functions in-house. Flight crew training, heavy aircraft maintenance, aircraft component overhaul, airport facilities and equipment maintenance are all accomplished in Wilmington.

  Hours
We offer tours to the public, Monday through Friday by appointment. Arrangements should be made at least two weeks in advance. There is no charge for tours, but reservations must be made. A complete list of guests must be available 3 days prior to the tour. Only those on the list will be admitted -- and only if each one has a government-issued photo ID.

  Other Information
Visitors must be at least 12 years old, mobile and should dress for the
weather. Visitors may not tour in shorts, sandals, open toe or heel shoes; they may not bring cameras or recording devices; and may not have had anything alcoholic to drink within the eight hours prior to the tour.

The tour involves a lot of walking and stair steps, and is conducted mostly outside. No tours are offered in December and January, and throughout the year, tours could be cancelled due to weather conditions.

Because the tour takes place on the airport, we must observe strict security procedures. Unfortunately, when we reach Defense Alert Level Orange tours are suspended.
